چکیده

Heterogeneous esterification of 2-ethyl-1-hexanol and 2-ethyl hexanoic acid using AMBERLYST 15 as solid acid-catalyst in supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) has been studied. Effect of pressure (150, 200, and 250 bar), temperature (75, 110, and 140 C), flow rate of liquid CO2 (0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 mL.min), type of sample collection, and mole ratio of alcohol to acid (2:1, 1:1, and 1:2) on ester yield have been studied. With increasing temperature from 75 to 110 C the yield is increased, but at 140 C the yield is significantly decreased. The flow rate of SC-CO2 and the mole ratio of the alcohol to the acid have no significant effect on the esterification yield.

Continuous Synthesis of Oleyl Oleate in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide using Solid p-Toluenesulfonic Acid as Catalyst

Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) was used as solvent to synthesize oleyl oleate as an analog of Jojoba oil from oleic acid and oleyl alcohol with high conversion (100%) of the acid into ester in a short time of 100 min. Utilizing a low cost solid catalyst, p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (PTSA), the esterification reaction was performed, without any prior preparation step...

Reactions in supercritical carbon dioxide

Use of conventional organic solvents often leads to the formation of hazardous waste, the disposal of which is a matter of environmental concern. Carbon dioxide is considered to be a green reaction medium and a good replacement for conventional organic solvents as it is benign and leads to elimination/reduction of hazardous wastes. Use of CO2 at near/above critical conditions has several additi...

Solubility Prediction of Drugs in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Using Artificial Neural Network

The descriptors computed by HyperChem® software were employed to represent the solubility of 40 drug molecules in supercritical carbon dioxide using an artificial neural network with the architecture of 15-4-1. The accuracy of the proposed method was evaluated by computing average of absolute error (AE) of calculated and experimental logarithm of solubilities. The AE (±SD) of data sets was 0.4 ...
